Hi, newbee here with a 2006 PT Trail rig. when off roading at times I get a VDC off light with slip light and 4x4 wont work untill its all cleared. My question is there a way to manualy shift it into 4x4 when deep in the woods and this happins? is it as simple as adding a new power wire or ground wire to the 4x4 switch?

Have you ever tried finding out if any codes are being stored in the abs or transfer case systems? That would be the first place to start. Is your Pathy an LE with the auto mode transfer case? With either system, when you turn the transfer control knob to 4WD, it should put the transfer case into four wheel drive via an electric motor on the transfer case. That said, the R51 Pathy has electronic limited slip. Both front and rear diffs are open style carriers. What ELS does is sense a slip and use the abs system to lock the brake on the slipping wheel, which sends power to the opposite wheel, or, the one with the traction. There is no mechanical lock-up inside the differentials, as on a conventional limited slip differential. If you do want a mechanical locker, people are working on them for the R51 and I believe there is an air-locker system currently available that can be made to work. You see discussion on this at thenissanpath.com if you are interested.

they make manual cables to actuate 4 wheel drive. it's nice because if you have to back up trailers you can actually go into low gear and still be in 2wd. i would look into it. if i remember correctly it's pretty inexpensive.
