hello, very this is my first post in this forum. very despirate to fix up my truck this weekend.

i have searched and searched, through google, how to install a vg30e timing belt and i can not find it anywhere! the walkthroughs on how to change a belt are useless because i had my heads removed and rebuilt. so everything has moved and needs to be set from step one. the belts is off the distributor is removed i know my torque figures and how to install but the positioning of everything during installation is troubling me. anyone know of a good walkthrough i missed? i am very knowledgable with the ka24de but this is my first time having my vg apart. i see the differences with the engine is the ka's timing is 1:2 and the vgs timing is 1:1. so i thought really isnt any way to screw up. i had it together and working properly, but i had to remove it all unfortunatly i forgot to put my rear upper timing cover on :(. when i put it all together its sucking through the exhaust and blowing through the intake . cams gears aren't mixed up and all marks are in the right position... i would greatly appreciate the help !!

VG engine timing is not 1:1; it's two crank revolutions to one revolution of the camshafts, just like every four stroke engine.
Setting up the timing is easy, as the timing marks are on the timing belt. The arrow on the belt should point toward the radiator. The dashed line on the belt lines up with the right bank cam sprocket timing mark, which will be roughly in the 11:00 position when looking at it from the front of the vehicle. The subsequent solid lines will line up with the left bank cam sprocket timing mark in the 1:00 position, and the crank sprocket timing mark in the 5:00 position.
I would suggest you invest in a Nissan factory service manual; it'll give you all the information you need. You can sometimes find used paper versions on Ebay and/or find downloadable versions on the web, depending on year.

yeah i realized after some thinkingthat its not 1:1 haha. thanks ! i never realized that there was an arrow that had to face a certain way that could definatly help !

setting up timing is easy? yeah because unlike my darn ka24 you dont have to remove the oil pump and re rtv everytime ! (lovin the vg)

right bank, left bank. i refer to left hand drive, right hand drive, correct?

ihave tried finding the fsm and i found 3 or even four files that no longer exist and when i finally found one, in the engine mechanical section i did not show the vg's timing it only showed the sohc ka24e timing setup :/.

but i greatly apreciate your help mate ! car pooling with my co workers is great for saving money but i feel like a nuisance. i will update with a progress picture, and i will search for the introductions thread if there is one.

my ride is a white 1995 wd21 se model, 5 speed 4x4 with a 3" suspension lift, longtubes, centerforce dual friction clutch etc.etc.

If you are standing in front of your vehicle, looking at the front of the engine, the bank to your left will be the right bank and the bank to your right will be the left bank.

I should also note that some aftermarket timing belts have three solid lines, rather than two solid and one dashed, which is the way a genuine Nissan timing belt is marked. On those belts, the arrow will be centered between the two cam sprockets and solid lines lined up with the respective marks. Also, there are dimples on the rear timing cover to help locate the cam sprocket marks. These marks are approximate and in my experience, they are not exact and a little "off" of where the cam timing marks will actually line up once the belts is installed. Here is a link to the alignment marks:

There are plenty of YouTube videos showing the VG timing belt replacement procedure. Also, Autozone.com has free repair guides that will list the procedure; you may need to register an e-mail address to use it. Autozone is an auto parts store in the USA.
