guys, as you always say, use the search button; i uncovered many many facts and proceedures on this, like advancing the timing. so i gave it a shot because i really doubted how auto mechanics here in the p.i. adjust the timing: they just rev the engine twice above 2k rpm and adjust the distributor; no unplugging the tps sort of thing. so i tried to follow your timing proceedure: kill engine, remove tps, rev 3 times above 2k-3k to set in timing mode, adjusted timing, kill engine put tps back. i think i was able to follow the instructions because after reving 3 times above 2k rpm with the tps not connected, the engine did not die, the needle just stuck on 1k rpm without movement.
here comes the weird part, i became so used to detonation before that i didnt notice it at times when it happened, and as my auto mechanic told me while he was using a timing light "oh sir, your timing's adjusted to 5 degrees".i was like "wtf, is that possible?" i mean my timing just 5 degrees and detonating. so i had him set my timing to around the 4th mark from 5 degrees; bumping it up to 15 degrees. i ran the car and the engine lost some of its unwAnted sounds! that i have to thank you guys for!
here's my question, if the timing was set to -5 degrees, would the engine still run? how bout 0 degrees, would it? and is there any way i can read my timing thru the marks in the pulley without a timing gun? i dont know how to read thru the ga16de's timing marks, and if anyone could teach me how, id really appreciate it! thanks guys!
