Battery dead, starter biffed?

Well, today I picked up my 96 200SX SE and I've been loving it. Tonight I was out with some friends and we were about to leave this parking lot, I went to start my car and found that the battery was dead. I found that my fog lights were on the entire time, even when it was off all evening. No problem, one of my friends jumped my car and on our way we went.

About an hour later, we stop for gas at Sheetz and I turned off my car thinking it would be charged enough by now. Nope. Once again, my battery is dead. So we came to the conclusion that I need a new battery. I went home to swap batteries with my Grand Am only to find that they have the screw in connectors, so I can't do that. So I hooked up a battery charger to my battery (which I took out of the car), set the charger on 12V and let it sit for an hour. I put the battery back in my car and instantly I got bright lights, radio, everything electronic. Upon trying to turn over the engine, I hear a single click and suddenly, no more electronics. Just a beep coming from the car to tell me that my door is open and the key is in the ignition. So I bring over the battery charger and hook it up to the battery while the battery is in the car. I figure this will do the same thing as jumping it. I let it sit on there for a minute so it will get enough juice through to start the car. So I try to start the car, and hear a rapid clicking followed by seeing some sparks coming from either the battery termimals or the battery charger.

That brings me here. What the hell is wrong? I know for a fact that all the connectors are on correctly as far as positive/negative goes. I haven't touched anything else. The battery charger is set correctly as well.

If it matters, it's a 5-speed. Thanks. =\
