Hello, does anyone know which years from other Frontiers that i can swap a transmission into my 2005 Nismo Frontier 4x4 v6, it recently went out completely, is there a difference between a 2WD and 4x4 trans? Also if anyone knows the transmission model#, much appreciated thanks!
The transmissions should be the same from 05 up for the v6. What was the cause of the failure? Did the radiator split and contaminate the tranny? You don't want to replace it and have it happen all over again, because of that.

Is this a common problem? Is it caused by abuse, lack of service, or poor design?
I remember a BMW I owned and the series was famous for needing a radiator replacement around 60k.
I think it's probably 2 parts. Poor design and the material used. Plastic can only take so much abuse before giving way and since it's constantly temperature cycled, it's amazing it lasts as long as it does. I'm sure they are trying to use the radiator to help with temp regulation, but just let the transmission be cold. I'm sure its doesn't take long to heat up. Plus you have 2 different liquids that have characteristics of not playing nice together. I guess it's one sure way of guaranteeing service customers down the road.
