In case anyone else has to deal with a thermo in one of these little cars, the best piece of advice I can give is to follow the factory service manual. No paper gasket, liquid gasket only. And for Pete's sake, don't over torque the bolts. Get that torque wrench & keep it between 55-75 inch pounds. I finally checked the FSM & followed it. I didn't break anything, it isn't leaking & it's doing fine now.
