Air Bag Sensor

Hey guys, I have a 2011 Altima 2.5s Coupe with a CVT, and it was in a wreck before I purchased it. I have a faulty air bag sensor in the driver's seat according to the dealership, and I was wondering how to go about replacing it. The nearest Nissan dealership is a few hours away, so taking it there isn't really an option at the moment. Do I need to replace the whole seat or could I just replace the sensor. Reupholstering to match the other seats isn't an issue because it needed done anyways thanks to poor maintenance.

there shouldn't be a sensor in the drivers seat, should be in the passengers seat, as in seat bottom, it is meant to detect weight and if it should deploy the airbag in an accident. you may have someone check the system to find the real issue before you spend $$

The tech at the dealer said it was the driver's seat. Next time I'm on the city I'll have to take it to a different dealership for a second opinion, because the weight sensing of the passenger seat seems to be in working order.

They were more worried about patronizing me over the lack of maintenance of the car from the previous owners. Can only a Nissan tech get the code or is there a way for me to decode it by entering diagnostic mode? I remember how, but I dont know what the pattern means.

On older models, you could turn the key "on" and cycle the door switch a number of times and get the air bag light to flash codes, but I don't think you can do that on your Altima. If you download a factory service manual, it would tell you. It's likely you'll need a capable scan tool capable of reading air bag system codes in order to find out what the code is.

You can cycle the ignition on the 2011 Altima a number of times to get the the air bag warning light to flash in a certain way, but I have no idea how to decode it. I'm assuming the capable scan tool you mention is the $10,000 rigs they have at the dealership? This car needs a lot of care, and I don't mind shelling out some cash to get it working like new, but that's beyond my resources, especially with my other projects going on as well.

Just wondering if you got this resolved? I just bought a 2010 Altima S and the Air Bag Sensor Light is flashing on and off continuously. (it is for the passenger side I believe?).

Just wanted to know what you found out? I have yet to take it to a dealer I purchased from a private party. THANKS!
